Danner Boots

The main types are general construction and industrial boots, EH-rated boots for jobs that require electrical-hazard footwear, logger boots, and duty or tactical boots. Danner also runs hunting and hiking lines, but this collection leads with the work and safety styles.

To choose the right boot for your job, start with the hazards you face. Pick a safety toe if you handle heavy material, an EH-rated boot if your job calls for electrical-hazard footwear, and waterproofing if you are wet or outdoors most of the day. Match the height and any insulation to your conditions, then narrow by trade, since duty and law-enforcement buyers can start with the Danner duty boots and hunters or hikers have their own lines.

Danner boots are worth the money on the recraftable stitchdown models. When the outsole wears out, you resole them instead of buying a new pair, so one pair lasts longer. The lighter models cost less up front but aren't resoleable, so you replace them rather than rebuild them when they wear out. If cost per year matters more to you than the price on the box, the recraftable models make that higher upfront price easier to justify.

Danner makes some boots in Portland, Oregon, and imports others, and the origin varies by model. Product pages list where a specific pair is built, so check the one you are looking at when it matters to you. USA-built work styles include models in the Bull Run and Quarry USA families, some labeled "Made in USA with imported components."

How long a pair lasts depends on the model, the surface you work on, how often you wear them, moisture, and maintenance, so there is no single number. Hard daily use on concrete or abrasive ground wears a boot faster than lighter, well-maintained use. On the recraftable stitchdown models, a resole replaces worn sole components and extends the boot's service life rather than ending it.

Danner can resole and recraft the majority of its stitchdown boots through the Danner Recrafting program, which rebuilds worn boots with new soles and repairs instead of replacing them. Eligibility depends on the model and the condition of the boot, not where it was made, so imported stitchdown models can qualify too. Check the specific model before assuming it can be rebuilt.

Steel, alloy, and composite toes all carry the same ASTM impact and compression rating, so the choice is about the boot, not the rating. Steel is thinnest and least bulky, alloy is lighter than steel, and composite is non-metallic, insulates better against heat and cold, and clears a metal detector (though other boot parts may still be metal). The difference between Danner Dry and Gore-Tex is that Gore-Tex is a licensed third-party membrane, while Danner Dry is Danner's own proprietary lining. Danner describes both as waterproof and breathable, keeping outside water out while letting moisture vapor escape. Which one you get usually matters less than the boot's fit, insulation, construction, and intended use.

Danner sizing depends on the model and the last it is built on. Some lasts run roomy with a broad toe box, while the narrower lasts Danner uses for uniform, tactical, and safety-toe boots fit low-volume and snug, so the same size can feel different between two models. Fit the boot with the work socks you normally wear. If your foot runs wide, the wide widths below are the better fix than sizing up the length.

Many Danner work boots come in wide widths, with medium and wide offered across much of the work line we carry. If your everyday boot is a wide, you can stay in that fit instead of sizing up the length to make room.
