Some Boots Climb Mountains. Others Climb Worksites.
By combining top-of-the-line materials like GORE-TEX and Vibram with a weight-saving platform, Danner built the Vicious to feel like the boot you want to put on at the end of a long day. This 8-inch version pairs a taller shaft with a non-metallic composite safety toe, so you get more ankle coverage and certified protection without sacrificing the lightweight, athletic feel the Vicious is known for.
Key Features of the Danner Vicious 8" Composite Toe 13868
-
Composite Safety Toe (NMT): A non-metallic toe that meets ASTM F2413 for impact and compression resistance, won't trigger metal detectors, and doesn't conduct heat or cold.
-
8-Inch Height: A taller shaft adds ankle coverage and support and helps keep debris out.
-
Full-Grain Leather Upper: Leather is put through six separate tests before selection, for strength and durability on the job.
-
Waterproof GORE-TEX® Liner: A 100% waterproof, breathable liner keeps water out while letting sweat and moisture escape.
-
Vibram® Vicious Outsole: A low-profile 90-degree heel with added lugs and grooves for oil- and slip-resistant traction on uneven ground.
-
Danner Trailguard™ Shank: A lightweight, supportive nylon shank for stability and underfoot protection on rough terrain.
-
DLE-01 Last: An anatomical last with superior heel and forefoot capture, plus extra toe-box room for feet under heavy load.
-
Electrical Hazard (EH) Rated: Non-conductive soles help protect against electrical shock in dry conditions under ASTM F2413.
Why a Composite Toe?
Unlike a steel toe, the non-metallic composite toe won't set off metal detectors and doesn't transmit heat or cold the way metal can. It still meets the same ASTM F2413 impact and compression standard, so you're not giving up protection for the convenience — and the taller 8-inch shaft adds ankle coverage on top of it.
A Different Kind of Build
The Vicious is a cup-sole boot built on a nylon shank and Trailguard TPU platform rather than Danner's stitchdown construction, so it isn't eligible for Danner's recrafting program. In exchange, you get a lighter, more athletic-feeling safety-toe boot with GORE-TEX waterproofing built in from the factory.
Why Choose the Danner Vicious 8" Composite Toe 13868?
If you need certified safety-toe protection with more ankle coverage in a lightweight, waterproof package, this is it. A composite toe rated to ASTM F2413, a GORE-TEX liner, and the Vibram Vicious outsole's grip on uneven ground make this a strong choice for demanding job sites.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the 8-inch composite toe meet safety standards?
Yes. It meets ASTM F2413 for impact and compression resistance, the same standard covers its electrical hazard (EH) resistance, and it's non-metallic so it won't trigger metal detectors.
What's the difference between this and the 4.5-inch composite toe Vicious?
Same GORE-TEX waterproofing, composite toe, and DLE-01 last — the 8-inch shaft just adds more ankle coverage and support.
Is this boot insulated?
No, this version is non-insulated. For cold-weather protection, see the 400G insulated version (13874).
Can this boot be resoled or recrafted?
No. The Vicious uses cup-sole construction on a nylon shank rather than Danner's stitchdown build, so it isn't eligible for the recrafting program.
