USPS specifies black footwear that is polishable and slip-resistant, and manufacturers build postal-approved models to that specification and label them accordingly. Oxfords, chukkas, and boots all qualify depending on the model. The specification and the uniform allowance program are set by USPS and can change, so confirm the current requirement with your station before ordering.

Carrier work is walking and handling mail rather than working around crush hazards, and a rated cap adds weight at the front of the foot where it costs the most across ten or twelve miles a day. Most postal-approved shoes are soft toe for exactly that reason. Some carriers choose a light composite anyway for peace of mind around vehicles and equipment.
