CSA Z195 is the Canadian safety footwear standard, and it is a separate certification from the American ASTM F2413. A CSA Grade 1 boot carries a green triangle marking, which signifies a toe cap rated for heavy impact plus a puncture-resistant sole plate, both together. The two standards are not interchangeable, and the direction that matters is that a Canadian site specifying CSA will generally not accept an ASTM-only boot. Many Terra models are dual certified and carry both markings, which solves the problem if you cross the border for work. Check the tag on the specific boot for both marks rather than assuming, since dual certification is per model rather than brand-wide.

Much of the Terra range is built metal free, using composite or non-metallic toe caps together with non-metallic puncture plates and shanks, which is a genuine advantage for airports, secure facilities, and detection-controlled sites. This is worth calling out because a composite toe alone does not make a boot metal free on most brands, since the shank and plate are separate components. The Crossbow pac line is the cold-weather range and is built for Canadian winter work, with removable liners so you can dry them overnight rather than starting a shift in a damp boot. A removable liner is the practical difference between a pac boot and an insulated leather boot: on a leather boot the insulation is sealed in and never fully dries between shifts. Insulation weight is listed per model, so match it to how much you move rather than to the coldest day of the year.

Both are waterproof safety boots and the difference is the toe material and the build. The Patton family uses an alloy toe and spans 6-inch and 8-inch lace-ups, pull-ons, and a met guard version. The Sentry 2020 is a 6-inch composite toe waterproof boot. Alloy is a light metal cap and composite is non-metallic, and both hit the same rating, so choose composite if detectors or temperature transfer matter and alloy if they do not.

Many Terra models carry an electrical hazard rating, which covers a sole and heel built to resist incidental contact with a live circuit. EH and static-dissipative ratings are mutually exclusive under both the CSA and ASTM standards, since they do opposite jobs, so a boot carries one or the other and never both. Terra boots generally run true to size, with the pull-on Patton and Chelsea styles fitting a little roomier through the instep as pull-ons do across every brand. The composite and alloy safety caps take up some internal volume, so if you wear thick winter socks with the insulated models, factor that in before ordering. A metatarsal guard covers the instep, the stretch of foot between the safety toe and the ankle that a toe cap leaves exposed. The Patton alloy toe waterproof met guard model is the met-rated boot in the current Terra range. Met protection is rated as part of the finished boot rather than added on, so if your site specifies it you need a met-rated model from the start. Terra builds much of its range for industrial plant and warehouse floors, so cushioned midsoles and slip-resistant outsoles are standard rather than optional across the line. The Eclipse athletic safety shoe is the lightest option if you cover distance on flat concrete, while the 6-inch lace-ups give more ankle support if the floor is uneven or you are on and off equipment.
