Frequently Asked Questions

For standing in water, considerably. A rubber boot has no membrane and no seams to fail and it hoses clean afterwards. What it gives up is breathability, support, and abrasion resistance, so it is poor for covering distance. Match the boot to whether you stand in water or walk through it.
A neoprene bootie sealed inside a rubber shell adds insulation, flex, and comfort, and it is what makes a boot wearable for a full day rather than an hour. Plain rubber is cheaper, stiffer, and colder, suiting occasional use. Muck and XTRATUF both build on neoprene. See our Muck and XTRATUF ranges.
Rubber does not breathe, so yes, more than leather. Neoprene linings handle it better because neoprene wicks and stays warm when damp. Good wool socks make a real difference. If your feet are wet at the end of a day, sweat rather than leakage is usually the cause.
Buy for where the water actually reaches. Ankle and mid heights suit wet surfaces you walk on. Twelve to fifteen inches covers standing in water, mud, and washdown. Taller boots are heavier and hotter for no benefit if you do not need the depth, and harder to walk in.
Some do, in steel and composite, meeting ASTM F2413 for impact and compression. Most of the category is plain toe, because the work rubber boots are bought for involves water rather than crush hazards. Toe type is stated in every product title, so filter to the rated models if your site requires one.
Store them out of direct sun, upright rather than folded at the ankle, and rinse chemicals and manure off after use. UV, ozone, and repeated folding at one point are what crack rubber, far more than the work itself. Ammonia from manure and harsh cleaners break the compound down faster than mud does.
Most run about a half size large and many people size down, though it varies by brand. The neoprene lining also takes up volume, so fit tightens once the boot is on. With no lacing to take up slack, the fit you get is the fit you keep, so length matters more here than on a laced boot.
Rubber, PVC, and neoprene all resist many chemicals far better than leather, which is why they are standard in washdown and processing environments. Resistance is specific to the chemical and the compound though, so match the material to what you actually handle. See our chemical resistant boots range.
