Is 600g of insulation enough, or should I look at 800g?
600g is the general-purpose choice for cold, damp work where you stay moving — it holds warmth without turning the boot into an oven on a mild afternoon. Step up to 800g if you're stationary for long stretches in genuinely hard cold, since insulation ratings assume your own movement is generating some of the heat.
Does the steel toe get cold?
Steel conducts heat away from your toes far more readily than composite does, and on a sub-freezing jobsite you will feel it at the toe cap even through insulation. If cold transfer is your main concern, a composite-toe logger is the better choice; if you need maximum impact protection in the thinnest toe box, steel wins.
Can it be resoled?
Yes. Welt construction stitches the outsole on rather than cementing it, so the lug sole can be replaced by a cobbler when it wears out.
