What is a linesman shank, and why are there two?
Separate right and left shanks are contoured for each foot rather than mirrored from one pattern. They give the rigid, arch-length underfoot support needed to stand on pole gaffs and ladder rungs for long stretches without the shank flexing and letting the climber's arch collapse over the rung.
Why is it 7.21 lbs per pair?
Weight is the cost of the build: a 10" leather shaft, welt construction, dual steel shanks, and a one-piece Vibram® outsole. For climbing work that mass is largely stationary underfoot rather than swinging, but expect a heavier boot than a general-purpose 6" work boot.
Can it be resoled?
Yes. Welt construction means the outsole is stitched rather than bonded, so a cobbler can rebuild the boot when the Vibram® sole wears out — a meaningful advantage on a boot at this price point.
