What is Thorogood's Nano Toe?

Thorogood's own composite safety toe, built from a non-metallic compound and rated to ASTM F2413 for impact and compression, the same standard steel meets. It is lighter than steel and does not conduct heat or cold, which matters on outdoor work in either extreme.

Steel or Nano composite?

Both meet the same rating, so choose on weight, temperature, and screening rather than strength. Steel is thinner for a given rating, giving a slimmer toe profile, and it is cheaper. Nano is lighter and does not conduct temperature. If you work outdoors in hard cold or clear detectors, Nano is the better answer.

Does a Nano toe make the boot metal free?

Not on its own. The cap is non-metallic but the shank, any puncture plate, and the eyelets and speed hooks are separate components and can be steel. If you clear detectors at work, verify the whole boot rather than the toe type. See our 100 percent non metallic collection.

What do the ASTM codes mean?

I/75 means the toe withstood a 75 foot-pound impact and C/75 means 2,500 pounds of compression. Those are the core safety toe codes. Codes such as EH for electrical hazard and PR for puncture resistance appear only when the boot was built and tested for those hazards. Match them to what your site specifies.

Why do safety toe boots hurt my toes?

Almost always fit rather than break-in, because the cap is rigid and never softens the way leather does. If your toes touch the cap walking downhill, the boot is too short. If the pain is across the ball of your foot, you need more width. Sizing up in length rarely fixes it and usually adds heel slip.

Which of these are USA made?

Can rated Thorogood boots be resoled?

The Goodyear welted models can, which covers most of the USA-made lines, and Thorogood runs its own recrafting service. The safety cap is unaffected by a resole, since it sits in the upper rather than the sole. Check the construction on the product page.

Do these come waterproof?
