Frequently Asked Questions

For most trades, yes. Six inches clears the ankle bone, gives lateral support on uneven footing, and keeps ordinary debris out. You need more height when you stand in water or deep mud, work around sparks, or spend the day on genuinely broken ground. See our Thorogood 8 inch range.
Start from the sole. The American Heritage and 1957 Series are moc toe wedges for concrete and finished floors. The Genesis and Job Site Series are more conventional work boots. Iron River adds genuine Gore-Tex for wet work. The Deuce and Station are duty boots. The sole and the work decide it more than the height.
They generally run about a half size large, so most buyers order a half size down. The moc toe models have a roomy toe box which can make a boot feel larger even when the length is right. If you have space at the front but your heel lifts, drop the half size rather than trying to lace it out.
The Iron River models. That is worth noting because most of the rest of the Thorogood waterproof range uses a house membrane rather than Gore-Tex. Both keep water out; the difference is that Gore-Tex boots are built to Gore's specification and tested as finished footwear. See our Gore-Tex work boots range.
Many are, built at Thorogood's Wisconsin factories. The American Heritage, 1957 Series, Genesis Series, American Legacy, American Union Series and Hammerhead are domestic; the Deuce, Station and several others are imported. Each says so in the product title. See our Thorogood USA made range.
One to three weeks on the heavy USA-made leather models, since the leather has to soften and take the shape of your foot. The lighter Genesis and duty models need far less. Wear them in shorter stretches over the first week rather than a full shift on day one.
The Goodyear welted ones can, which covers most of the USA-made lines, and Thorogood runs its own recrafting service. Cemented models cannot. If you go through outsoles annually, a rebuildable boot works out considerably cheaper over time. Check the construction on the product page.
Yes, in steel and Thorogood's Nano composite toe, meeting ASTM F2413 for impact and compression, alongside plenty of soft toe versions. Toe type is stated in every product title. See our Thorogood safety toe range.
