What Roughout Leather Is
Roughout is leather turned flesh-side out, so the suede-like surface faces the world. It scuffs without showing it, resists abrasion better than a smooth finish, and doesn't need polishing. Here it's used on the quarter, with smooth walnut leather on the vamp — the two ages differently, which is the point.
An All-Around Welt
The welt runs the full perimeter of the boot rather than stopping at the heel. Stitched, not glued, so a cobbler can replace the wedge when the tread wears down — and on a boot that's already comfortable out of the box, that's what decides how many years you get.
Why Choose the CA7068?
Domestic, union-built, comfortable from the first day, and resoleable — without paying for a safety toe you don't need.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the CA7068 have a safety toe?
No. It's a soft-toe boot with no protective toe cap, so it does not meet ASTM F2413 impact and compression requirements. Carolina builds the CA7568 as the steel-toe version.
Is the CA7068 true to size?
Carolina generally runs true to size — order the size you wear in sneakers, unlike Red Wing or Thorogood, which tend to run large. The moc-toe last is roomy through the forefoot.
Is it really made in the USA?
Yes — assembled by union labor in Carolina's Martinsburg, Pennsylvania factory using globally sourced components.
Is it waterproof?
No. There's no waterproof membrane, and roughout leather takes water readily unless you treat it.
Can it be resoled?
Yes. Goodyear welt construction stitches the outsole to the upper rather than bonding it.
Does the EH rating still apply when the boots are wet?
Treat it as reduced. EH testing is performed under dry conditions; moisture, damp leather, and worn outsoles all degrade insulation. EH footwear is secondary protection — never a substitute for de-energizing a circuit or using primary PPE.
