Men’s 5” Electrical Hazard Rated Composite Toe Hiker
The waterproof Quadricep 5” Composite Toe Hiker is designed to keep your feet dry and comfortable in challenging weather and wet work conditions. Featuring a waterproof lining, it’s built with a composite safety toe, barnyard acid-resistant leather upper, abrasion-resistant toe guard, and an oil- and slip-resistant rubber outsole with heavy-duty tread for superior traction. Rated for Electrical Hazard and Static Dissipation, this boot also includes a non-metallic shank for added convenience, safety, and stability on the job site.
Key Features of the Carolina CA4546
-
Composite Safety Toe Cap — Meets ASTM F2413 for impact (I/75) and compression (C/75), with less cold transfer than steel.
-
Electrical Hazard Rated — Tested to withstand up to 18,000 volts at 60Hz for one minute without leakage.
-
Earth Brown Barnyard Acid Resistant Leather & Mesh Upper — Treated to resist the acids in manure and fertilizer.
-
Waterproof SCUBALINER™ — Carolina's proprietary waterproof lining system.
-
Abrasion-Resistant Toe Guard — A bumper over the leather where boots wear out first.
-
External Heel Counter — Stiffens the heel against roll on uneven ground.
-
Removable AG8™ Dual-Density Foam Footbed & Pillow Cushion™ Insole — Two layers of cushioning; the footbed comes out for orthotics.
-
Non-Metallic Shank — Composite support with no steel in it.
-
Cement Construction & EVA Midsole — A bonded sole that keeps the boot light and flexible.
-
Oil-, Slip- & Heat-Resisting Rubber Outsole — Heavy-duty tread rated to resist heat as well as oil and slip.
What Barnyard Acid Resistance Actually Does
Manure, urine, and fertilizer are chemically aggressive. They attack ordinary leather, and a boot that shrugs off rain will still come apart in a dairy barn or a feedlot. Acid-resistant leather is treated to withstand that exposure. Paired with a waterproof membrane, it's a genuine livestock boot.
Heat-Resisting Outsole
The outsole compound is rated to resist heat as well as oil and slip — useful on hot asphalt, near ovens and kilns, and around welding. For sustained radiant heat, Carolina builds boots with Vibram® and Kevlar® outsoles designed for it.
EH, Not SD
The CA4546 carries an electrical hazard rating: it insulates against contact with a live circuit. Its sibling the CA4545 is static dissipative, which conducts static charge to ground. The two properties are mutually exclusive under ASTM F2413 — if you need SD, the CA4545 is the boot.
Why Choose the CA4546?
Waterproof, EH rated, light underfoot, on leather built to survive a barn floor.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the CA4546 static dissipative?
No. The CA4546 is electrical hazard (EH) rated, which is the opposite property — an EH boot insulates you from a live circuit, while an SD boot conducts static charge to ground. The two are mutually exclusive under ASTM F2413. The CA4545 is the SD version.
Is the CA4546 true to size?
Carolina generally runs true to size — order the size you wear in sneakers. If you're between widths, take the wider one; feet swell over a shift.
Is it insulated?
The CA4546 is waterproof and uninsulated, which makes it comfortable across three seasons. For winter work, Carolina builds insulated models rated by gram weight.
How does cement construction affect the boot?
The sole is bonded directly to the upper rather than stitched through a welt, which keeps this hiker light and flexible from the first day, with no break-in underfoot.
Does the EH rating still apply when the boots are wet?
Treat it as reduced. EH testing is performed under dry conditions; moisture, damp leather, and worn outsoles all degrade insulation. EH footwear is secondary protection — never a substitute for de-energizing a circuit or using primary PPE.
