What Barnyard Acid Resistance Actually Does
Manure, urine, and fertilizer are chemically aggressive. They attack ordinary leather, and a boot built for the jobsite will still come apart in a dairy barn or a feedlot. Acid-resistant leather is treated to withstand that exposure.
Heat-Resisting Outsole
The outsole compound is tested to hold its shape on surfaces up to 500°F — relevant on hot asphalt, near ovens and kilns, and around welding. For sustained heat exposure, choose footwear built specifically for it.

How hot a surface can the outsole handle?
Carolina tests the compound to hold its shape without melting on surfaces to a minimum of 500°F. That covers hot asphalt and incidental contact around welding — it is not foundry footwear.
Why a composite toe over steel?
Both meet the same ASTM impact and compression thresholds. Composite weighs less and transfers far less cold into the toe box, which you notice on a winter morning. Steel is thinner, so it preserves slightly more room at the same size.
How does cement construction affect the boot?
The outsole is bonded directly to the upper rather than stitched through a welt, which keeps the boot light and flexible from the first day, with no break-in underfoot.
Is it insulated?
The CA5600 is waterproof and uninsulated, which makes it comfortable across three seasons. For winter work, Carolina builds insulated models rated by gram weight.
Does the EH rating still apply when the boots are wet?
Treat it as reduced. EH testing is performed under dry conditions; moisture, damp leather, and worn outsoles all degrade insulation. EH footwear is secondary protection — never a substitute for de-energizing a circuit or using primary PPE.
