Mt75 is the ASTM F2413 rating for metatarsal impact protection at 75 foot-pounds — the same energy as an I-75 safety toe, applied to the instep. A toe cap covers your toes and nothing else; the met guard shields the long metatarsal bones across the top of the foot, which is where a rolling or dropped object usually lands.
How does an aluminum toe compare to steel and composite?
All three meet the same I-75/C-75 thresholds. Steel is the thinnest and least expensive, but the heaviest. Aluminum is markedly lighter than steel and nearly as thin, which is why it suits a met-guard boot that's already carrying extra hardware. Composite is the only fully non-metallic option and the warmest in winter, though bulkier at the same rating.
Do I actually need a met guard?
