How Is Waterproof Different From Water-Resistant?

A waterproof boot uses a sealed membrane or bootie with sealed seams, so water cannot work through the leather or the stitching. Water-resistant leather sheds rain but takes on water in standing mud or over a long wet day. Carhartt builds both, and this collection is the waterproof group specifically. Rubber boots such as the Mudrunner are waterproof by construction rather than by membrane, since there is no leather for water to penetrate.

Which Waterproof Style Fits Your Work?

For general site and trade work, a 6-inch or 8-inch leather boot covers most conditions. For standing water, manure, and washdown, the rubber Mudrunner at 10 or 15 inches is the better tool. For roofing and finished floors, look at the waterproof wedge models. For cold and wet together, the insulated options add 200G, 400G, or 600G of insulation on top of the waterproofing.
