Frequently Asked Questions
Neither is stronger; both meet the identical ASTM F2413 impact and compression standard. Steel is the least expensive and the slimmest toe box, but the heaviest, and it conducts temperature. Composite is lighter, non-metallic, and does not transfer heat or cold. Choose steel for the most protection per dollar in a slim profile, composite for weight and cold-weather comfort.
They are the two core safety-toe tests. I/75 is impact resistance at 75 foot-pounds, roughly a 50-pound object dropped from 18 inches onto the toe. C/75 is compression resistance at 2,500 pounds of slowly applied load. Nearly every rated safety toe meets these levels, so the numbers confirm compliance rather than ranking one boot above another.
Yes, a steel toe is metallic and will trigger a detector. If you pass through screened entries such as courthouses, airports, or secure facilities, a non-metallic composite toe is the better choice, though note the shank and hardware can also be metal. For general jobsite use, the steel toe is not a problem.
With more room at the front than a regular boot. A steel cap does not flex or stretch, so if your toes reach it when you walk downhill or brake hard, they will keep reaching it for the life of the boot. Seat your foot back into the heel with clear space ahead of the toes. Most here are built on a women's last.
Steel conducts temperature, so a steel toe can feel colder in genuine cold than a non-metallic toe. Insulation and a good wool sock offset it, and many steel-toe boots here are insulated for winter. If cold is a constant concern, a composite toe does not transfer cold the way steel does, which is one reason to consider it.
Most are built on a women's-specific last rather than a downsized men's boot, giving a narrower heel and a fit shaped to a woman's foot. That matters for holding the heel and keeping your toes off the cap. Available sizes and widths are listed on each product page.
