KEEN Utility Men's Kansas City Mid Carbon-Fiber Toe Work Boot (1025617)
The KEEN Kansas City Mid is a carbon-fiber toe work boot built for jobsites that swing between surfaces: dirt, grating, gravel, and concrete in the same shift. It's 100% non-metallic, with electrical hazard protection, and weighs less than a steel-toe equivalent, which makes it a good fit for electrical work, general construction, and any site where you're moving between tasks all day rather than standing in one spot.
This is the mid-height version on a Black/Gun Metal colorway, SKU 1025617.
What the KEEN Kansas City Is Built For
The Kansas City Mid leans toward the working man who's on and off his knees, in and out of tight spots, and crossing variable terrain. The two things that define it are the carbon-fiber safety toe and the KEEN.BELLOWS FLEX forefoot.
-
Carbon-fiber toe, not steel. The asymmetrical left/right toe is 15% lighter than steel and shaped to follow your actual foot, so the cap doesn't crowd your toes the way a symmetrical steel toe can. Less weight over a 10- to 12-hour shift results in less fatigue by the end of the shift.
-
100% non-metallic construction. No steel toe, no steel shank. The boot passes through metal detectors clean, which matters if you work secured sites, airports, plants with screening, or correctional facilities.
-
KEEN.BELLOWS FLEX forefoot. The forefoot bends up to 3x easier at the flex point. If your day involves a lot of kneeling, climbing, and squatting, this is the feature you'll notice, and it's the spot where stiffer boots eventually crack and break down.
Safety Rating
Carries electrical hazard protection (EH / Electric Shock Resistant). This is a secondary layer of protection if the outsole comes into contact with a live circuit. It is not primary protection, and like all EH footwear, it degrades in wet conditions, so treat it as backup, not a substitute for proper procedure.
Sole, Support, and Ride
-
Oil- and slip-resistant rubber outsole, non-marking, on an all-purpose tread that handles mixed terrain rather than specializing in one surface.
-
KEEN.ReGEN midsole returns 50% more energy than standard EVA foam. In plain terms: more bounce-back underfoot through a long shift instead of dead, flat foam by hour eight.
-
Nylon shank for midfoot support (non-metallic, consistent with the metal-detector-safe build).
-
Non-marking, non-mutilating upper so you don't leave scuffs on finished floors or equipment.
Upper, Lining, and Fit
-
Abrasion-resistant synthetic/textile upper. Lighter than leather and built to take rubbing without wearing through early. Note that this is a synthetic upper, not full-grain leather, so it has a different durability and care profile than a leather work boot.
-
Mesh liner with moisture-wicking textile lining to move heat and sweat out, designed for warm weather and indoor work where leather boots run hot.
-
KonnectFit heel-capture system plus a lace-capture system to lock the heel and keep the foot from sliding.
-
Removable metatomical PU footbed, so you can pull it for your own orthotic or insole if you run one.
Who Should Look Elsewhere
If you need a fully waterproof boot, this isn't it. The synthetic upper and mesh liner are built for breathability, not submersion. If you're standing on flat concrete all day, a wedge-sole boot will serve you better than this all-purpose lug. And if your spec sheet calls for a steel or composite toe specifically, confirm that carbon fiber is accepted before you order.
