Manure and animal waste release ammonia and organic acids that break down leather fibers and attack the stitching holding a boot together. Ordinary work boots fail at the welt within a season in a dairy barn. Acid-resistant leather slows that considerably. If you're not working around livestock or organic waste, you don't need it — but if you are, it's the difference between one season and several.
What does the D.I.C.E. outsole resist?
Chemicals, heat, oil, and slips. It's a dual-density urethane compound, which is what allows it to hold up to chemical exposure that would soften or crack a standard rubber lug outsole.
Can it be resoled?
Yes. Welt construction stitches the outsole to the upper rather than bonding it, so the D.I.C.E. sole can be replaced when it wears through — worth having on a boot in a chemically aggressive environment, where the sole usually goes first.
How does an aluminum toe compare to steel and composite?
