Rocky Men’s USMC Tropical 8" Soft Toe Puncture Resistant Boot - RKC091
The Rocky USMC Tropical (RKC091) is an 8-inch, USA-made military boot developed in collaboration with the United States Marine Corps and certified for USMC wear on 1 April 2019. It's a soft-toe, puncture-resistant boot built for hot-weather field and garrison use: breathable, water-resistant, and aggressive underfoot. This is the standard-issue-spec tropical boot, GSA-approved and Berry Compliant, in coyote brown.
If you need a safety toe, this isn't the boot. It's a soft toe by design, built for mobility and breathability in tropical and warm conditions, not for jobsites with a composite- or steel-toe requirement.
What it's Built For
This is a hot-weather and humid-climate boot. The full-grain flesh-out leather and 1000 Denier Berry Compliant Cordura upper move air rather than trap it, which is the point of a tropical boot: feet that stay cooler and dry out faster on long days. Marines run these for field training, patrol, and garrison; the same build works for anyone who spends warm-weather shifts on uneven ground and wants a USMC-spec boot rather than a generic tactical one.
Underfoot Protection: The Puncture-Resistant Plate
A puncture-resistant plate is embedded in the outsole and meets the ASTM F2413 puncture-resistance standard. On the ground where you can't see every nail, screw, or shard, that plate is the layer between a sharp object and your foot. It's the feature the boot is named for, and it's the reason this model gets specified for work where step-through hazards are real.
Traction and the Panama Vibram Outsole
The outsole is a Panama Vibram cupped sole with an aggressive lug pattern. In practice, that means two things: grip on loose and steep terrain, and a tread that sheds mud and debris rather than packing them. The cupped construction also adds shock absorption underfoot, which matters over a 12-hour day on hard or rocky ground. The toothy tread is what lets you move confidently across smooth, steep rock.
Comfort and Odor Control
Inside is the removable Rocky Air-Port footbed, which circulates air with each step rather than sitting flat and dead under your heel. It carries an Aegis microbe shield to fight the odor and bacteria that build up in any boot worn hard in the heat. A padded collar reduces rubbing at the top of the shaft. Because the insole is removable, you can swap in your own orthotic or aftermarket footbed if you already have one.
Made in the USA, Berry Compliant, GSA approved
This boot is made in the USA and Berry Compliant, meaning the materials and manufacturing meet federal sourcing requirements for military procurement. It's GSA-approved and was certified with the USMC on 1 April 2019. If your purchase must meet a Berry or GSA requirement, this boot meets it.
Fit and Break-In
Expect a break-in of roughly two weeks of regular wear before the leather settles, which is normal for a full-grain field boot. It runs comfortably once broken in. Rocky offers this in Medium and Wide widths across a wide size run. If you're between sizes or planning to wear heavy socks, account for that when ordering.
