The Cathode CA5589 is an 8" waterproof composite-toe work boot that doubles as a warehouse shoe — lightweight, entirely non-metallic, and sealed against water.
Key Features of the Carolina CA5589
-
Composite Safety Toe — A non-metallic toe for environments where steel isn't appropriate; meets ASTM F2413-18 I-75/C-75, with reduced cold transfer.
-
Waterproof SCUBALINER™ — Carolina's sealed proprietary waterproof lining system.
-
Buster Dark Beige Leather Upper — Durable leather with a modern look.
-
Mesh Lining & Removable PU and Memory Foam Footbed — Breathable, with cushioning that lifts out.
-
Non-Metallic Shank — No metal structure anywhere in the boot.
-
Electrical Hazard Rated — Tested to withstand up to 18,000 volts at 60Hz for one minute without leakage.
-
Cement Construction & Oil/Slip-Resisting Rubber Outsole — Lightweight, flexible, and grippy.
Protected and Dry, Without the Weight
The composite toe meets the same impact and compression thresholds as steel while weighing less and transferring less cold. The sealed SCUBALINER™ membrane locks water out while letting vapor escape.
Jobsite or Warehouse
Carolina positions the Cathode for both. The oil- and slip-resisting outsole handles slick warehouse floors, and the 8" shaft and waterproofing handle the yard. Cement construction keeps it light and flexible through a full shift on hard floors.
Why Choose the CA5589?
A lightweight, waterproof, fully non-metallic composite-toe boot for everyday jobsite and warehouse wear.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose a composite toe over steel?
Both meet the same ASTM F2413-18 impact and compression thresholds. Composite weighs less and transfers far less cold — noticeable on a winter site or a cold warehouse floor — and suits environments where metal isn't appropriate. Steel is thinner, so it preserves slightly more room inside the toe box.
How long does the waterproofing last?
The SCUBALINER™ is a sealed membrane rather than a surface coating, so it doesn't wash off. Conditioning the leather and keeping the seams clean is what keeps it working over the life of the boot.
Can I use my own orthotics?
Yes. The PU and memory foam footbed lifts out. The CA5589 is EH rated rather than static-dissipative, so there's no SD rating to compromise by swapping it.
What sizes and widths does the Cathode come in?
Carolina builds it in D and 2E widths, sizes 8 through 14, including half sizes through 11½.
Is it insulated?
No. The Cathode is non-insulated, though the composite toe helps — unlike steel, it doesn't conduct cold straight through to your toes.
Does the EH rating still apply when the boots are wet?
Treat it as reduced. EH testing is performed under dry conditions; moisture, worn outsoles, and conductive debris all degrade insulation. EH footwear is secondary protection — never a substitute for de-energizing a circuit or using primary PPE.
