For most trades, yes. Six inches clears the ankle bone, gives lateral support on uneven footing, and keeps ordinary debris out. You need more height when you stand in water or deep mud, work around sparks, or spend the day on genuinely broken ground. See our Wolverine 8 inch range.

Wolverine's cushioning system, built around compression pads in the midsole designed to absorb impact and return some energy. It is the brand's main comfort platform and appears across much of the range. Like any midsole foam it compresses over time, so a boot that feels dead underfoot needs replacing even if the upper looks fine.

Start from the sole and the work. The Trade Wedge and Loader wedges suit concrete and finished floors. The Overpass and Hellcat are built for rougher outdoor ground. The Floorhand and Rig are oilfield and industrial boots. The I-90 platform sits in the middle with the strongest cushioning.

Generally close to true to size, though it varies between platforms since the athletic-styled models are built on different lasts from the traditional ones. Widths run standard and EW across most of the line. If you are between sizes, get the width right before changing the length.

Many are, and status is stated in every product title. A waterproof boot only protects to its collar, so if you stand in water deeper than six inches the membrane does nothing and you need a taller boot. See our Wolverine waterproof range.

Steel, alloy, Nano composite and CarbonMax carbon fiber on the rated models, all meeting ASTM F2413, plus soft toe versions. CarbonMax is the lightest. Toe type is stated in every product title. See our Wolverine safety toe range.

Most are cemented or direct-attach rather than welted, so they are built to be replaced rather than rebuilt. Check the construction on the product page if rebuildability matters to you. For welted boots, see our American made boots collection.

The athletic-platform models like the I-90 and Reforce are comfortable within a few shifts, since they use lighter uppers and cushioned midsoles. The heavier full-grain models take one to two weeks. Wear them in shorter stretches over the first week rather than a full shift on day one.
