For most trades, yes. Six inches clears the ankle bone, gives lateral support on uneven footing, and keeps ordinary debris out. You need more height when you stand in water or deep mud, work around sparks, or spend the day on genuinely broken ground. See our Ariat 8 inch range.

Start from the work rather than the name. Rebar is the general work line and the broadest. Turbo is the more finished European-styled boot. Treadfast is the value option. Outpace and Endeavor are the lighter athletic-leaning builds. Stump Jumper is built for logging and rough outdoor ground.

Ariat's footbed and support platform, built around a shaped insole and a stability shank intended to align the foot and distribute weight across the footbed rather than concentrating it. It appears across most of the range and is the brand's main comfort argument on long shifts.

A BOA dial replaces laces with a wire and a ratchet, so you tighten by turning and release in one pull. It gives even pressure across the instep and leaves nothing to snag or come untied. The dial is a mechanical part that can fail, though it is generally replaceable. See our BOA work boots range.

A Chelsea uses elastic side gores instead of laces, so it pulls on in seconds and has nothing to catch on equipment. A lace-up lets you adjust tension across the instep, which holds the foot more precisely on uneven ground. See our Ariat Chelsea range.

Several Rebar models do. A wedge runs flat from heel to toe so the whole footprint meets the ground, which spreads your weight on concrete and grips a ladder rung along its full width. It is the wrong sole for loose or steep ground, where a lugged tread bites and a wedge slips.

Generally close to true to size, though it varies between the western lasts and the athletic work lasts. Widths run D and EE across most of the line. If you are between sizes, get the width right before changing the length, since width is what usually causes the problem.

Steel, composite and Ariat's carbon fiber Carbon Toe on the rated models, all meeting ASTM F2413 for impact and compression, plus soft toe versions. Carbon is the lightest and does not conduct cold. Toe type is stated in every product title. See our Ariat safety toe range.
